At Smudge, we believe scent is a whisper to the soul.

It has the power to calm, to awaken, to protect - to shift the energy of a space or soul with just one inhalation. 

What began as a small, soul-led project between a mother, daughter, and mother-in-law has become a heartfelt business rooted in intention, connection, and care.

From our tiny acreage in rural Iowa, we handcraft small-batch candles, car diffusers, body soap, and other body products with clean ingredients, custom chakra-aligned fragrances, and ethically sourced materials. Every product is made with intention - from our hands to your home.

We don't just make candles. We create tools for grounding, alignment, and daily self-connection. Whether you're lighting a flame to set the tone for your day or hanging a diffuser in your car before a long drive, we want you to feel anchored, balanced, and in tune with your energy.

Jenn - The Soul Behind Smudge

Hi there! I'm Jenn - soap maker, candle pourer, hired hand to our farm, and mom of four.

Smudge started as a soul-led project with my mom (Pam) and mother-in-law (Jeanne), and somewhere between chasing toddlers and feeding bottle babies, it turned into something much more.

I've always been drawn to the subtle shifts that happen when we slow down and tune in - to our breath, our body, and the energy we carry. Each Smudge product is an extension of that practice. Whether I am pouring Chakra candles or blending oils, I create with intention to support balance, clarity, and connection.

I create from a place of intuition and lived experience. Everything I make is something I'd use myself - simple, clean, and made with intention. I am a big believer in energetic balance, good smells, and finding tiny rituals that help us feel like ourselves again (even if it's just lighting a candle between laundry loads).

I live on a little hobby farm in Iowa surrounded by animals, chaos, and magic in its rawest form. This land keeps me grounded. The chakra work keeps me aligned. Smudge is where it all meets - ritual and real life, spirit and scent, intuition and handmade craft. Smudge is my creative outlet, my quiet place, and my way of sending magic out into the world - one small batch product at a time.

Jeanne - The Heart Behind Smudge

Hello, I’m Jeanne! I am a cold process soap maker, mother of five, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a woman rooted deeply in both faith and family.

Years ago, after the passing of my husband, I found myself learning how to listen more closely, not only to others, but to my own heart. In this new season of life, making soap has become more than a craft. It’s become a quiet way to create something beautiful from the simplest ingredients. This is a reminder that healing can come in small, sacred acts.

Romans 8:18 says, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” To me, that verse means things will get better even when we can’t see how just yet.

Each bar I make is a prayer, a piece of peace. I believe we are all meant to grow and give in our own way, and this is mine.

Pam - The Light Maker

Hello, I’m Pam, mother of four, grandmother to a growing crew, and a Reiki Master with a deep love for the unseen. I’m also the main candle maker here at Smudge.

When I pour, it’s not just about wax and fragrance it’s a spiritual practice. I tune into the land around us, listen to its rhythm, and let that guide each blend. The stones are placed with intention. The energy is felt, not forced. It’s a quiet, sacred process, one that grounds me and, I hope, grounds you too.

I’ve spent years studying spiritual energy, and through that journey, I’ve found a strength and confidence that comes from something far greater than myself. Each candle carries a thread of that energy which is a reminder that you’re connected, protected, and capable of real peace.
